The project
No ground penetration. No containers. No time.
Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei needed cover for a newly built waka, and needed it quickly. The site came with real constraints: Council would not allow any penetration of the ground, containers were ruled out because the profile had to sit low, and the shelter had to be standing before the blessing.
We developed a two-course block wall design that our engineers signed off without any ground penetration at all, then built two custom end walls to suit the reduced apex height. Two 8m x 40ft shelters were installed end to end for 24m of continuous cover — on time, on budget, and ready in time for the waka delivery.
