Maintenance Tips

Your shelter is built for tough conditions, but a little regular attention keeps it performing for years and keeps your warranty valid. Here's what to check and when.

Regular inspections

Routine checks catch small issues before they become big ones.

• Frame and bolts: Check for loose bolts, rust or other signs of wear on the steel frame. Tighten or replace bolts as needed.
• Cover: Look for small tears, frayed edges or other damage to the PVC cover, and patch minor tears promptly.
• Tensioning: Make sure the ratchet straps are secure and properly tensioned so the cover holds its shape.

Cleaning

• PVC cover: Wash with mild soap and water. Avoid harsh chemicals, which can degrade the UV stabilisation and fire-retardant properties.
• Frame: Wipe the galvanised steel down with a damp cloth to remove dirt and help prevent rust.
• Drains and vents: Clear any blockages in drainage or venting flaps so air and water can move freely.

Before severe weather

• Wind: Double-check that all straps and anchors are secure before high winds arrive.
• Snow: Remove excess snow build-up from the roof to avoid undue strain on the structure.
• Rain: Make sure water drains away from the shelter and isn't pooling around the base.

Minor repairs

• Tears in the cover: Patch small holes or tears promptly with a PVC repair kit.
• Rust spots: Sand back any rust on the steel frame and apply a galvanising spray to protect against further corrosion.
• Loose or worn fittings: Replace them to maintain stability and safety.

If you installed it yourself

• Check all bolts are tightened to the recommended specification.
• Check anchors are firmly secured.
• Check the install matches the NZ certification requirements and your shelter's specific engineering plans.
• For peace of mind, consider booking an inspection by our certified installers.

Getting the most out of your shelter

• Avoid modifications. Unauthorised modifications can weaken the structure and void the warranty.
• Relocating? Reinstall every component securely, following the assembly guide.
• Storing it? Clean and dry all components thoroughly first to prevent mould and corrosion.
